Vegan Lifestyle Conferences & Social Media Events
Here’s a snippet of our Month of Memories Q & A with Kelly Peloza…
VVC:How did VVC2013 affect your culinary style and home cooking?
Kelly: The contents of the swag bag have been going strong! I’ve just been really into summer foods, fresh fruit and and vegetables. And pesto and bacon for some reason.
While in Portland, I highly recommend going to one of our city parks and spending at least 15 minutes laying underneath a giant tree. It’s like a power nap. You’ll be a better person for it, trust me. Try Laurelhurst Park, Peninsula Park, Columbia Park, Couch Street Park, Fernhill Park, Sellwood Park….look for the trees!
In case you haven’t heard, to add even more awesome into the VVC weekend, there’s the Vegan Pop-Up, Gorditas & S’mores Social (Post VVC Day-1) Hangout at the Vegan Mini Mall.
Details: Friday, May 24th, 6 pm till the wheels fall off. More info on the Facebook event.
The Gist: After Vida Vegan Con’s opening day, come on over to the Vegan Mini-Mall (SE 12th & Stark) and hang out, socialize, and eat seitan tacos lovingly made by Upton’s Naturals and Food For Lovers Vegan Queso (at Food Fight!) Then hit Herbivore for S’mores served up by our friends from Chicago Vegan Foods (Dandies!). Then, hit Sweetpea for ice cream sandwiches and say hi to Panda with Cookie!
Other cities have vegan bakeries, vegan pizza and vegan pho – but where else can you find a food cart dedicated to smoked vegan meats? Homegrown Smoker is a MUST for any out of town visitor. I recommend the Tempeh Fakon Sammich with a side of Mac-nocheese.
You are going to hear again and again that you should get Voodoo Doughnuts. Maybe that doesn’t sound as exciting as it once did since vegan doughnuts are more plentiful out in the rest of the world but Voodoo still has the best I’ve every had. They instantly take me back to my childhood. If you decide to bring one of their trademarked boxes back home on the plane I promise every single person you make eye contact with will ask you for one, so bring extra to share! The second location (Voodoo Too) doesn’t have long lines but they are all cash only and they are all open 24/7.
The next round of personalized Portland Picks comes from a former Portlander (and naturally, passionate vegan blogger) who’ll be back in town in a few days to speak at the ‘Con, Sayward Rebhal. As always, our recommendations come from trusty Portland vegan locals and lovers, and we bet all our attendees, whether you’re arriving early or not, want to squeeze in a little time outside of the busy, busy conference schedule to wander in the vegan wonderland. Let’s find out more of Sayward’s “Socially Conscious, Totally Fabulous!”Portland musts below…
Only Portland has…
Darcelle. Just look it up. The turning point in the adult life of almost all Pacific NW natives includes Darcelle.
This year’s Battle Royale is going to be even more epic. More drama! More trivia! More masterful manipulation! And, of course, more prizes! Team prizes! Audience prizes! All of which are made possible by the generosity of some really amazing companies.
